In 1946, Napoleon Louis Poulin started Poulin’s Pest Control. In 1953, Poulin’s was hired to eliminate all the rats in Alberta. 18 months later Alberta was declared rat free.

70 years later Poulin’s Pest Control is still eradicating pests from home, apartments, farms, food facilities, towns and other areas where pests are a problem. Lincoln Poulin (Napoleon Poulin’s Grandson), Vice President of technical operations is working to finish what his grandfather started, eliminating and controlling pests.

So what does it take to rid an entire region of pests many people ask?

“Dedication and hard work, and always keeping in mind that’s there’s a solution to every pest problem,” Lincoln said. “Too often, PMPs get stuck taking mental shortcuts and overlook a solution to the pest problem at hand.”

“I had a warehouse with a large rat infestation, and everyone was hung up on fixing/sealing the outside of the walls,” Lincoln explains. “While this would prevent future pest infestation, it was not dealing with the pest problem at hand. The customer was looking at least a $200,000 repair cost to the building. We stated what we could do with increasing the frequency of service and installing additional traps. Soon after starting our program we showed the customer results. Now the customer is changing their mindset. And fixing the exterior walls.”

That mindset shift to more practical pest solution is what Lincoln sees as the future to pest control.

Of course, Poulin’s Pest Control can count on the support of Univar, with a physical branch in his neighborhood and ProTraining courses on PestWeb. After all, you can’t control every pest from Winnipeg to Vancouver without a little help.
